The Strikers have taken out the Melbourne Futsal League U'11 Championship in emphatic fashion, finishing on top of the ladder after 7 rounds of the competition. The squad coached by Robert Lakovski produced some dazzling futsal entertaining the crowds on show, week in week out.
The Strikers started their campaign with a 13:6 win over Monash and followed that up with a crushing win over AFG 13:3. The Strikers early on showed that they were going to attack teams at all times and play a high pressing game to force mistakes and turnovers from opposition teams. This continued in their 3rd game when they defeated EFA One 17:3. The boys went into the holiday break with high confidence after also beating the Pumas 17:1. The Strikers scoring an amazing 60 goals in 4 games.
After the holiday break the boys lost some of their momentum and found it harder in the next two games, narrowly defeating EFA Two 3:2 and then losing 4:5 against a determined Cobras. The Strikers guilty of missing many one on one's in that game, whilst the Cobras keeper having a field day in front of goal just about saving everything that came his way.
The scenario for the last round was that the Strikers had to win their last game to ensure they remained on top of the ladder. That was all the motivation the team needed, running out the game 13:0 winners with one of the best performances of the tournament, with the defence impenetrable.
The Strikers will now look forward to the next version of the MFL and the Victorian Club Championship to be held in Bendigo during the June/July school holiday's.

LATEST MELBOURNE FUTSAL LEAGUE NEWS
The U'11 Strikers Futsal team had to come back from behind to defeat the EFA 3:2 in a thriller at the Bulleen Veneto Club in Round 5 action of the Melbourne Futsal League. The Strikers were evenly matched by the EFA who were very organised in defense, making it hard for the Strikers to play their smooth flowing game. Having said that the Strikers still grinded out some chances and if it wasn't for some poor finishing would have had the game sewn up half time. Brayden Calleja with two great goals helped his team come back along with a typical gritty goal from Matthew Conversano. The Strikers will be looking at improving their performance against the other EFA team in Round 6 action on Sunday the 14th of February at 2pm, especially with the finals fast approaching.
The Strikers mens team have lived up to their promise by being crowned the 2009 Melbourne Futsal League Champion. In a thrilling last round the Strikers defeated the dangerous Reservoir Wolves 3:1 in the semi-final with goals by Ben Bodo, Irzad Spijodic ans Alija Redzepovic. The Cobras destroyed Ashburton 8:0 in the other semi-final to set up a match bewteen the two best sides of the competition.
The Strikers again got the jump on the Cobras going up 3:0 in the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Strikers believing they had the game won then went to sleep, with the Cobras scroing the next five goals to go up 5:3 at half time. Some important tactical moves at half time saw the Strikers come back and score the next three goals to hit the lead. The lead then exchanged several times, with the scores locked in at 7:7 at full time. In a thrilling extra time, the Strikers got the only goal to win the championships 8:7. Both coaches were happy with the way their teams played, with perhaps the difference between the two sides being the hunger to win from the Strikers. On top of this great result, the Strikers also pulled off another award with key target man Irzad Spijodic being crowned the Golden Boot of the tournament. The Strikers will be looking at defending their crown when the 2010 version comes around.
Top goal scorer for the season, Irzard Spijodic.
The Strikers U'11 have continued their fine form in the Melbourne Futsal League by defeating the Pumas 17:1. The Pumas playing a defensive zone initially made it very hard for the Strikers to break them down. However the Strikers found some gaps through the defense, and once the first goal went in the flood gates opened. Five nil was the half time result, with the coaching staff insisting the boys play a patient game and commit extra players forward. The boys then upped the ante by scoring twelve goals to one in the second half. Regular keeper Jayden Merceica turned goal scorer with a rare opportunity up front scored an impressive 4 goals, with the speedster Matthew Conversano with another 4 goals. Jonathan Vakirtzis booted in with another 4 goals, Nathan Liberto and Jamie Gazelle chipped in with two goals each and Brayden Calleja and Samuel Logozzo also getting on the scoresheet.
The end result was a great team effort, with the boys going into the Summer break clear leaders at the top of the ladder.
